Terms of Service
Effective July 1, 2026
Alongside Tutor is operated by Alongside Learning LLC ("we," "us," or "our").
The quick version
Alongside Tutor is a paid, subscription tutoring service. A parent or guardian (18+) owns the account and is responsible for their child's use. We own our content; you get a license to use it with your family while subscribed. The service is a supplemental learning aid, not a guarantee of results, and the AI can make mistakes. You can cancel anytime. Full details below.1. Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Alongside Tutor website, web app, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and the parent, legal guardian, or an authorized educator of any student who uses the Service. Accounts are owned and controlled by adults. Children do not register themselves — a parent creates a controlled login for each child. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current.
3. Your account and student logins
You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account and under any child login you create, including keeping passwords confidential, not sharing logins outside your household, supervising your child's use, and notifying us promptly at support@alongsidetutor.com if you believe an account has been accessed without authorization.
Student safety monitoring. To help keep children safe, student messages to the AI tutor are automatically screened for signs of a child-safety concern — including self-harm, abuse or neglect, violence or threats, unsafe contact with others, sexual content, bullying, and drug or alcohol use. If such a signal is detected we record it for the child's parent or guardian, and we do so even when per-child conversation sharing is turned off. For the most serious of these signals — self-harm, abuse, violence, unsafe contact and sexual content — we also email the parent or guardian right away and include the message that triggered the alert. For the remaining safety categories, a parent with conversation sharing turned off is shown that a flag occurred and its category, but not the message text itself. This screening is automated and is not a substitute for professional help; in an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Alongside Tutor is billed on a per-child subscription basis at $39/month (or $349.99/year) per child. There is no free trial; your payment method is charged when you subscribe and your subscription renews automatically each billing cycle until you cancel. The price, billing interval, and renewal date are shown at checkout and in your confirmation email.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number on our servers. Optional AI "credit" top-ups are sold separately as one-time purchases at pass-through cost.
We may change prices over time. We will give you advance notice by email before a new price applies to your subscription; existing subscribers keep their current price until the change takes effect on a future renewal.
5. Cancellation
You can cancel anytime from your parent dashboard via Manage billing, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; your children keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for, and their progress and history are retained. See section 6 for refunds.
6. Refunds and AI credits
Subscription charges, including renewal charges, are generally non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable consumer-protection law. Cancelling stops future charges but does not retroactively refund a charge that has already been made. If you cancel, your children keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for (see section 5), and their progress and history are retained.
Optional AI "credit" top-ups are one-time purchases sold at pass-through cost. Credits that have already been used are non-refundable. Any unused credits remain available on the account per the terms shown at purchase.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: resell, sublicense, or share access outside your household; copy, scrape, or redistribute our content; reverse-engineer or attempt to copy how the Service works; misuse the AI features to generate harmful, unlawful, or abusive content; or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' data. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these rules.
8. Our content and your license
All content, lessons, software, design, text, graphics, AI-generated materials, and other materials made available through the Service are owned by Alongside Learning LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for your family's own learning while your subscription is active. This license ends when your subscription ends. You receive no ownership rights in our content, and all rights not expressly granted are reserved.
9. Content you submit
The Service lets your child submit content — for example, messages to the AI tutor and photos of homework they choose to upload. You and your child keep ownership of that content; we do not claim it. To run the Service, you grant Alongside Learning LLC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, and process that content solely to provide and operate the tutoring experience for your family — including sending the relevant question and lesson context to our AI provider to generate a response. We do not use your child's submitted content to train AI models. You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not violate the law or anyone else's rights. This license ends when the content is deleted or your account is closed, except for backups or records we must keep for a limited time.
10. Your data and privacy
Our handling of your and your child's information is described in our Privacy Policy. As the parent, you retain control of your child's data and may review or request its deletion.
11. Disclaimers
Alongside Tutor is a supplemental educational tool. We do not guarantee any specific academic outcome, grade, or test result. AI-generated explanations and feedback can be incomplete or incorrect and should be reviewed by a parent or educator. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind except those that cannot be disclaimed under applicable law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alongside Learning LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim.
13. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Alongside Learning LLC from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable costs (including attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, the content you or your child submit, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of another person.
14. General terms
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of the Terms will stay in full effect.
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and replace any earlier agreements on that subject.
Assignment. You may not transfer or assign these Terms or your account without our consent. We may assign these Terms, for example as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; this policy will continue to apply to your information.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms right away, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
15. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and notify account holders by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve any dispute directly.
